Star Wars has made one of George Lucas’ earliest ideas for the Jedi canon (again). George Lucas might be one of the greatest visionaries of cinematic history, but even his ideas didn’t emerge fully formed. The first Star Wars movie went through several drafts, and the Jedi Order changed significantly as he worked on them. The earliest incarnation of the Jedi were known as the “Jedi Bendu,” described as “the most feared warriors in the universe” and “the personal bodyguards of the Emperor.“
George Lucas originally called the Jedi the "Jedi Bendu" – and tie-ins have woven the Bendu monks back into Star Wars canon as precursors to the Jedi.
